I'm really not kidding about the misery and horrifying scenes though. if nothing else, I can appreciate how audacious this book was. and for all the action scenes weren't great, I thought the slower scenes WERE quite good. and I weirdly came to like Fran because the author clearly despised her for making extremely human flawed choices in a terrible situation.), but I thought they were all fascinating and interesting to follow. I felt the plot meandered a lot, and the action scenes weren't interesting, but I also, well, saying I "liked" the characters isn't really accurate (some of them were chill though, certainly Indi. this was a miserable slog, and full of completely irredeemable people, but I finished it in one sitting, so.
